When is the deadline for sending my course material?
If you wish to have your course material available at the beginning of the first semester, the deadline for books is as soon as possible, at the latest on August 8th, 2021. The deadline for printed material is August 29th, 2021. Evidently, also for course notes we hold onto the principle "the sooner, the better". This way our volunteers can spread the workload. We print also the material that arrives after deadline, but we cannot guarantee that it will be in our shop at the beginning of the semester.
For the second semester the deadlines are as soon as possible, and at the latest January 2nd, 2022 for books and at the latest January 23rd, 2022 for notes without finishing. Also if your course starts later in the semester, we advise you to send the material as soon as possible. During the semester, it takes 10 business days to print notes with (spiral) bind and 8 business days to print notes without finishing. Please be warned that we close after the 11th week of the semester.
Books
Our supplier Acco can get us any book with ISBN, which we then sell to students with discount. Some (often overseas) publishers take a very long time to deliver, which is the main reason we urge you to inform us as soon as possible which books you will use.
Printed materials: course notes, slides, ...
What follows is a list of option we offer for you printed materials. The first option is clearly only for slides.

Number of slides per page. For slides without small text or detailed figures, we advise 4 slides per page (landscape). Otherwise, we advise 2 slides per page (portrait). You can send us your slides in one of these two manners. or in its original format and mention how many slides per page you prefere.

Recto or recto verso. We advise recto verso printing for ecological reasons. However, if you expect this will leave not enough space to take notes, recto is the better option.

Finishing. The cheapest and fastest option is evidently no finishing. Most students perforate these notes and put them in a binder. It is also common to provide a (tape) binding, but this is not considered convenient for less than 85 or more than 250 A4 papers. If you want a binding for thicker course notes, we advise to split them up in multiple parts. Providing a spiral binding is done only for excursion guides that are used on location. For any other course material, we find the extra cost does not outweigh the ease of use. Additionally, we offer the possibility to make A5 booklets of your pdf. Finally, we also can print A3 pages without finishing, which may be suitable for maps.

Black and white, or color. Black and white printing is way cheaper than color prints, so we advise the first. If you find it necessary to have some figures in color, you can send us a pdf with only those pages in color and mention that these need to be in color.

Lab coats, dissection sets, ...
In addition to books and course notes, we also sell lab couts, dissection sets and molecule boxes. If your course needs similar material or if you have questions about the material we sell, you can also contact us at cudi@scientica.be.
Why do (don't) I get an email asking for my course material?
Our system is updated in the beginning of June with the information available on the ECTS fiches that are connected to a bachelor or master of the Faculty of Science. Next, we send all teachers that are mentioned on those ECTS fishes a mail, with something like "[Scientica course service] Course materials 20xx-20xx" as subject. If you were not (yet) mentioned on the ECTS fiche, you don't get an e-mail. Furthermore, each e-mail has an opt-out option, so you will not get any e-mails from us in the future.
Are you the same people than the course service of VTK / LBK / Ekonomika / ... ?
No, we sell only the material of courses at the Faculty of Science. All students are however welcome to buy their course notes at our shop. If you teach a course that is followed by students of different faculties, you are free to choose with which course service(s) you work. Please let us know anyhow where to find your material, so we can inform our students adequately.
I already gave information about my course material to Acco.
Acco is our supplier, with which we cooperate with great pleasure. However, information transfer is sometimes a bit slow, so we would truly appreciate it if you send us the same information.
All my course material is available on Toledo, why would I let you print it?
Since we order large quantities at the printing company, we get better prices. This makes buying the course notes at our shop way cheaper (and more convenient) for students, than printing it at the print shop. Of course you can leave your material available at Toledo for students who work digital or want to print it themselves. We will never print your material without permission.
I don't use course notes, so I cannot make use of your services?
In addition to printing course notes and slides, we also sell books, lab couts, dissection sets and molecule boxes. Only Acco course notes (with typical gray cover) we do not sell. If your course uses Acco course notes, we greatly appreciate you telling us, so we can inform our students adequately.
